This Philips' Atlas was first published c1862 with further issues up to 1891. All editions were by lithographic transfer. The maps were drawn and engraved by Bartholomews, and printed colour was introduced to later editions, as with this example, to represent Parliamentary Divisions.

This map was drawn and reduced from the Ordnance Survey by Edward Weller for Philips Atlas of the Counties of England…, first published in c1862. Over the next 40 years it appeared in the atlas, was sold individually in folding format, and was used in various other publications. This example is from the 1880 edition of Philips' atlas. Slightly grubby right-hand margin, but otherwise in nice condition. Original printed colour.

Philip's Handy Atlas was first published in 1873, with maps produced by lithographic transfer and drawn by John Bartholomew and Co. There were many later editions of the work, this example being from the edition of 1882. Printed colour.

Red cloth gilt, a little bumped and slightly frayed at top and bottom of spine and corners. 40 double page coloured map plates covering all parts of the world. A few spots and marks to the maps, but generally in quite reasonable condition. A "New and Enlarged Edition" of a popular school atlas.
